Meet Adrián Olivares Castro from University of Aveiro

We’re happy to welcome a new member to the REWRITE team. Meet Adrián, a marine scientist with a strong interest in ocean processes and coastal ecosystems.

Adrián recently completed his PhD at the University of Vigo (2025), where he worked on estuarine systems using hydrodynamic, biogeochemical and Lagrangian models. His research focused on understanding how these complex environments function and on assessing habitat suitability for shellfish, combining modelling approaches with real-world applications.

He now joins the Physics Department at the University of Aveiro as part of CESAM – Centre for Environmental and Marine Studies, and will contribute to REWRITE under Work Package 3. His work will focus on model projections, with a key role in developing hydrodynamic modelling for the Bay of Cádiz Demonstrator Site.

By strengthening our modelling capacity, Adrián’s work will support a better understanding of coastal dynamics and help inform future scenarios for rewilding and ecosystem restoration.
